Mount Sunzu – Mbala
Mount Sunzu is located in the Mbala district of northern Zambia, an area known for its high elevations, fertile soils and cool climate. At around 1,600 metres above sea level, the coffee grows slowly, giving the cherries plenty of time to develop their natural sweetness and complexity.
The coffee is produced and processed by Mount Sunzu at their own wet and dry mill. Ripe cherries are selectively picked and floated before being carefully dried on raised beds for around 30 days, protected from rain and covered overnight. Once dried, the coffee is hulled, graded, hand-winnowed and sorted at Mount Sunzu’s own dry processing facilities. Keeping the processing on site allows the producer to maintain close control over the coffee from cherry to finished green bean.
Zambia has a long history of coffee production, with many of its coffees grown in the country’s northern and eastern highlands. The combination of altitude, fertile soils and a cool climate creates ideal conditions for producing coffees with a distinctive sweetness and balance.
In the cup, this coffee is smooth and comforting, with rich notes of chocolate, fig and honey. The medium roast brings out its natural sweetness and full body, with a mellow finish that makes this an easy and enjoyable coffee to drink.
