1. Dose

Definition: The weight of the dry coffee grounds used to brew the espresso.

Measurement: Grams (g).

Typical range: 16 to 22 grams, depending on the desired strength and the size of the basket.

The dose sets the foundation for every espresso shot. Because more coffee means more soluble compounds, dose directly affects strength, body, and flavour intensity. Typical range: 8 to 12 percent for espresso.

TDS measures strength and concentration.
