The Beginning of Routes Coffee Roasters

by | Apr 6, 2019

Routes Coffee coffee roasters has been providing speciality coffee at events for the past 5 years and absolutely LOVE it. However, we wanted to learn more about the product we create, what better way than to start as coffee roasters. Going back to the beginning of the cycle, exploring the farms, plants, processes, varietals and exporting.

We always dreamt of one day roasting our own beans. Experimenting, learning and developing our skills in coffee and ultimately improve our event coffee service by profiling, what we perceive as the best coffee we can produce. Now we do!

You’ll find in life, that if you’re passionate and put your heart into what you do, opportunities come around often. We started with a £500 beaten up Bedford Rascal and an old school Lamarzocco Linea classic. We travelled, had good times and made beautiful coffee, wherever we could. Five-action packed years later, we were given the opportunity to buy a 6kg Giesen coffee roaster, at a price we couldn’t refuse.

This is now up and running at our warehouse in Oxford, churning out some of the most beautiful beans this side of the world. The process hasn’t been easy, but has been well worth it. Last year we visited Caffe Culture in Islington, and attended a talk by Maxwell, Co founder of Colonna Coffee. This talk was on starting your own coffee roasting business. I’m pretty sure everyone left the talk, saying; ‘F*** that, I’m never gunna start roasting’. It was a realistic insight into the hard work, patience and hours that go into opening a coffee roasters. It’s true, on paper it’s a great business opportunity but as with all business ideas, why do it if you’re not going to put 100% effort into it and care about your product.

Our warehouse is based in Oxford, 5 Fenchurch Court, OX4 6ZN. Everyone is welcome, if you want to chill, chat, and taste coffee or, play ping-pong and have a beer instead drop by; we love good company!

Our unit will also be used as a co-operative roasting space, if you wanted to start roasting for your business, without the initial cash output, please get in touch to talk about opportunities and how it could work for you.

Our beans are also available wholesale, for your coffee shop, restaurant or home, give us a call or email for more info on what we have available!
